Vahideh is a PhD candidate in the Department of Linguistics and has previously served as a GSO Senator, GSEU Department Mobilizer, and President of Chapin Apartment Residents Association. 

Vahideh is the GSO President for the second term. Last year, GSO advocated for stipend increase and affordable housing. In addition, GSO’s activities and initiatives were expended. GSO hosted the Regional National Graduate-Professional Students (NAGPS) Conference in April and it is hosting the NAGPS 30th Annual National Conference in November.The conferences empower and inspire graduate students to learn about different student leadership opportunities and discover new ways to implement what they have learnt.GSO also hosted Trevor Noah as its second annual speaker event. The purpose of the speaker series event is to engage more graduate students at Stony Brook and bring them into campus community. Moreover, GSO offered new services to our graduate students including tax workshops, online tax filing tool, and grant writing workshop.

Vahideh, along with her team, continues advocating for a fair stipend for all graduate student employees, a more efficient use of student fees, and affordable housing.  In addition, GSO is seeking a better collaboration with other organizations and clubs on campus to offer more social events and practical services for graduate students. Further, GSO strives for an expanded representation of students across university committees so that the voice of graduate students will be heard and recognized better.

Tiffany is a doctoral candidate in the Chemistry Department. Her research focuses on Understanding Symbiotic Changes in Nitrate Distribution in the Poplar Rhizosphere using infrared imaging. She has served as Vice President of the Graduate Career Association (GCA) and is the founding President of the Graduate Women in Science and Engineering Organization (GWISE). She is an advocate for gender equality and is passionate about science education, science policy and strives to improve the graduate student experience at SBU. She is the chairwoman for the social concerns committee of the GSO.

In her term as Vice president, she plans to introduce a pilot program for leadership training and to improve social life on campus for graduate students at SBU with the hope of bringing graduate students together from across different disciplines and providing a sense of belonging through shared experiences. One of her major goals is to introduce an annual formal event for all graduate students.

As Treasurer, Joseph is responsible for the fiscal operations of the GSO. He oversees all budgetary matters including the distribution of grants and financial services, the allocation of funding to member organizations, and budgeting for GSO initiatives and events; including the NAGPS National Conference in the fall. This year Joseph plans to create a closer relationship between member organizations, the GSO, and the student body; through expanding awareness of the GSO funded student life and financial services available to students. Along with the EC, he will continue advocating for student interests to university officials and policy makers. Joseph also currently serves as Director of Finance and CFO for the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students and was previously the RA Council Representative for Schomburg-West.

Ramiro is a doctoral student in the Economics Department. His research focuses on analyzing the relationship between depression, family structure, and family  income using machine learning estimation methods.  He has served as Speaker of the GSO Senate during the 2015-2016 period, and he also is the President of the Schomburg Apartments Resident Association (S.A.R.A.). Ramiro is an advocate of improving the housing and funding conditions for graduate students. He enjoys photography,  cooking, international politics, and reading science news.
In his term as Secretary, he plans to increase the participation and involvement of graduate students in the university-wide committees.

I am Luigi Pesce Ibarra: I am an International student from Maracaibo, Venezuela. I am 25 years old. 

I have completed a MS in Neuroscience at Stony Brook University (2015), a BS in Life Sciences, Biology at New York Institute of Technology (2014). and a BS in Psychology  at New York Institute of Technology (2013).

I am currently a PhD student in the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences program,in the Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences Concentration. My Research focuses on Identifying neural mechanisms in dual tasks in pediatric concussion/mild TBI, which will lead to the creation new therapies to repair cognitive and motor deficits. 

I have been living in USA for the last 6 years and served multiple college positions such as office assistant, resident assistant, peer advisor, academic tutor, teaching assistant, laboratory instructor, supplemental instruction leader, and last year I was the GSO senator for my department. Additionally, I have been Relay For Life captain for the last 3 years in different teams. 

I am very happy to become this year GSO speaker, it is definitely an honor and a privilege. I am really excited and enthusiastic about the position and I promise to work as hard as I can to fill the expectations. I want to make everyone in the executive committee, graduate senate, and all graduate students proud to have me as a colleague.
