Ramiro is a doctoral student in the Economics Department. His research focuses on analyzing the relationship between depression, family structure, and family  income using machine learning estimation methods.  He has served as Speaker of the GSO Senate during the 2015-2016 period, and he also is the President of the Schomburg Apartments Resident Association (S.A.R.A.). Ramiro is an advocate of improving the housing and funding conditions for graduate students. He enjoys photography,  cooking, international politics, and reading science news.

Jinelle Wint served as Vice President of Graduate Career Association (GCA) for 2016-2017 and GSO Alternate Senator for 2016-2017.  She also served as Treasurer for GCA from 2015-2016 and Treasurer for Graduate Women in Science and Engineering (GWISE) from 2015-2016.

Jinelle Wint grew up near Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She attended University of Miami and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and General Studio Art. She continued her education by joining the Master’s program in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Stony Brook University.  As a master’s student, she worked with Dr. J. Peter Gergen conducting research that focuses on gene transcription in Drosophila embryogenesis.  Subsequently, she entered the Ph.D. program in Molecular Cellular Biology at Stony Brook University.  She currently works in Dr. Howard Sirotkin’s lab and her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease using the model organism called zebrafish.

She has mentored in several programs including Community of Student Mentors (SBU), Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (NYAS), and Next Scholars Program (NYAS).  On her off time she enjoys traveling, photography, and ceramics.  She has had extensive training in science communication through the Alan Alda Center at Stony Brook University and aspires to be a science communicator working with the public and scientific community.

Karen Wishnia is a doctoral student in the Art History and Criticism department, where she instructs undergraduate coursework in the histories of photography and experimental film. In 2016-17, she served as the department’s Senator to the Graduate Student Organization and as Departmental Mobilizer for the Graduate Student Employees Union. She also co-organized the Stony Brook Art History & Criticism Lecture Series.  

As Treasurer, Karen is committed to increasing transparency during the funding and reimbursement process, and to working to allocate childcare stipends for graduate student parents.  
 
Prior to coming to Stony Brook, Karen worked in public programs at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, San Francisco.

I am Luigi Pesce Ibarra: I am an International student from Maracaibo, Venezuela. I am 26 years old. 

I have completed a MS in Neuroscience at Stony Brook University (2015), a BS in Life Sciences, Biology at New York Institute of Technology (2014). and a BS in Psychology  at New York Institute of Technology (2013).

I am currently a PhD student in the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences program,in the Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences Concentration. My Research focuses on Identifying neural mechanisms in dual tasks in pediatric concussion/mild TBI, which will lead to the creation new therapies to repair cognitive and motor deficits. 

I have been living in USA for the last 6 years and served multiple college positions such as office assistant, resident assistant, peer advisor, academic tutor, teaching assistant, laboratory instructor, supplemental instruction leader, and last year I was the GSO senator for my department. Additionally, I have been Relay For Life captain for the last 3 years in different teams.
