The GSO Housing Committee is responsible for investigating problems with on and off campus graduate student housing. The GSO Housing Committee serves as a link to the Schomburg Apartment Residents Association (SARA) and the Chapin Apartments Residents Association (CARA) and the chairperson observes the rate review process for both apartment complexes. The Housing Committee also maintains a relationship with Campus Residences and a member of the GSO Housing Committee sits on the Housing Planning Advisory Committee.
Chapin Community Center: Since May 2006 the GSO has been advocating for the Chapin Community Center to be built. It is our position that the Community Center would drastically improve the quality of life for the nearly 1000 graduate students and their families that live in the Chapin Apartment Complex.
Off Campus Student Tenant Project: The Student Tenant Project is a student designed survey and renters guide which creates a snapshot Stony Brook student tenant living conditions and issues.
2006 Off-Campus Renters Guide is the result of a survey of student opinions regarding their housing and their landlords. We offer this report as a tool to aid students in their search for off-campus housing.
If you are having trouble with your on or off campus housing and need help please feel free to contact the GSO Housing Chair.
