The Chai Found Music Workshop brings their revival of sizhu (Chinese chamber music) to Long Island. Confronted by the westernization of Chinese music, this six-person performance ensemble was founded to restore classical Chinese music and find news ways to innovate these traditions to bring sizhu into the new millennium.

Talk 2: Comparative Measure Phrases
Linguistics Seminar Room, March 5, 7:00pm

In this talk, I suggest that the cooccurrence restrictions found in the syntax of comparison (ex. more - than and as - as) should not be treated as a matter of selection as in the traditional analysis but must be captured in terms of agreement. In arguing for this proposal, I focus on comparative measure phrases found in expressions like taller than seven feet. As part of this discussion, I will venture into decomposition of antonymous pairs of dimensional adjectives.

n celebration of the Nauryz (Nowriz), the Central Asian Spring Festival, the Wang Center presents an unparalleled opportunity to learn about Central Asian culture and music directly from Kazakhstan's most talented avant-garde artists. A smash hit at the 2002 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Roksonaki pioneered the creation of a unique sound that integrates ancient Kazakh instrumentation with contemporary rock and jazz using motifs drawn from Eurasia's indigenous religious traditions. Followed by discussion with artists and anthropologist Helen Faller.

Stony Brook University's Graduate Student Employees Union is proud to present "Meeting Face to Face: The Iraq-US Labor Solidarity Tour," a documentary on the US occupation from the perspective of workers in Iraq and the United States. The short 30-minute film will be shown on Tuesday, March 11th at 4:00pm in the Wang Center Room 301, followed by a discussion with producer Michael Zweig of the Stony Brook Economics Department. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.

Our special guest this week will be Dean Lawrence Martin who will be discussing stipend increases for incoming students. There will also be resolutions regarding fees and the proposed smoking regulations as well as committee reports and allocations for social/cultural events as well as speaker series and conferences.
